Joel Strahota went to work for the Del Monte corporation in Markesan, WI in 1978 after graduating from Markesan High School. At this point in his life he was unsure what his future would be. He worked his way up from a machine operator to maintenance mechanic in the warehouse.
Along the way he became a volunteer firefighter for the Markesan Fire Department in 1981. He found that his passion for firefighting and repairing things could work hand in hand. In 1995, Joel and Ron Thiem approached Dick Rennert about the possibility of purchasing Rennert’s Fire Equipment Service. In September of 1996, that became a reality. Along with Rennert’s, came the opportunity to sell fire apparatus for a competitor. Joel did this for 2 years.
In 1999, another opportunity presented itself. Scott Krueger was looking to add another sales person onto their team and Joel was happy to fill that role. On September 14th, 1999, three significant things happened in Joel’s life. He started wearing his first pair of glasses which he picked up on his way to Pierce with Scott Krueger for his first time to meet a customer for a “construction review”. After this meeting, Joel hurried back to see his oldest son playing football and arrived just in time to see his son break his ankle. Aside from the glasses and the broken son, the relationship with his new Pierce family has been great.
Joel is married to Kris and they have two adult sons, Cory and Brett. Joel is an Assistant Chief on the Markesan Fire Department and Director for the Southern Green Lake County Ambulance Service in Markesan. Joel started with the Ambulance Service in 1986 as a driver. In 1988, he became an EMT-B and then advanced to an EMT-I in 1989.
